“CrossFit is a cult.” You may have heard one or two people (non-crossfitters) say this to you to get a reaction out of you. “Cult” has a negative connotation around it which makes me want to disagree with them immediately… but they have a point. In the end, we are a group of like-minded, positive people who have a shared interest in fitness. We have goals and we work hard to reach them and we want others in our little “cult” to succeed as well. In CrossFit we call this COMMUNITY!
The CrossFit community, which is our little group here in Pampa, is linked to every other CrossFitter in every other box around the world. You can watch a video of a middle-aged guy in Belize get his first pull-up and think, “I know that guy, we have that guy in our gym in Pampa!” Or see a Facebook post of a young girl getting her first “RX” in a workout say, “I remember getting my first RX too, I know just how she feels.”
The workouts are not where the magic is. Free workouts are posted on my website as well as CrossFit.com and every other affiate’s site. You guys, the community, makes this place special. Meeting someone you have nothing else in common with other than CrossFit and becoming friends and holding each other accountable here is what it’s all about. You have this community around you that wants you to thrive and succeed inside AND outside the gym. How else do we get through some of the really tough WODs or extra punishing weeks? We have this amazing group of people to come back to each day to push us to be our best. And that is something special. So, if we are a “cult,” and that is wrong… then I don’t want to be right.
